Cut the outside jacket so it can be removed. Don’t worry about nicking the wires inside of the jacket.

Terminate your telephone and network jacks.  Page 1

Remove the outside jacket and expose the pull string found in most network and telephone wire.

Pull the string about 3 inches beyond where you removed the outside wire jacket.

Cut the outside jacket and pull string, then cut the wire at the point where you originally crimped the jacket in the first step.

Fan out the wires. You will notice that the 8 wires are twisted together to create 4 pairs of wires. There will be one wire with a solid color and the other will be white with some of the solid color too.

This photo is a standard 6 position telephone jack. The color code on the label show the wire colors for older traditional 4 conductor telephone wire with a red, green, yellow and black. The other label shows the wire colors for newer telephone wire.
